Privacy Policy

Somavo is a privacy-conscious practice and coaching product. This policy explains what information Somavo may collect, why it is used, when cloud features are involved — including exactly which third-party AI providers receive your data — and how you can control or delete your data.

Summary

Somavo helps people record practice sessions, review speaking patterns, and prepare for interviews, presentations, and professional conversations. Personal capture and review are designed to be local-first where supported. Cloud-assisted coaching, team sharing, account sync, subscriptions, and support features are explicit product areas that may involve server processing. When you use AI-powered features, Somavo sends selected content to trusted third-party AI providers — specifically Anthropic and Cartesia — only to perform the feature you requested. Your explicit permission is obtained before any data is transmitted to these providers.

Information We Collect

  • Account information: name, email address, sign-in identifiers, profile settings, subscription status, team membership, and support messages.
  • Practice content: session titles, prompts, recordings or derived audio data if you choose to record, transcripts, timing, notes, coaching outputs, and selected files or text you provide for Interview Prep such as job posts, resume or CV text, and professional context.
  • Apple Watch and Health-related context: heart-rate samples or intensity indicators you authorize for practice review. Somavo uses this only as rehearsal context, not for diagnosis or medical treatment.
  • Device and diagnostic information: app version, device type, operating system, crash logs, performance diagnostics, and security logs.
  • Purchase and entitlement information: App Store subscription status and transaction identifiers needed to unlock paid features.

How We Collect Information

Information is collected when you create an account, use recording or practice features, grant Apple permissions, provide interview materials, join a team workspace, contact support, or make a purchase. Some diagnostic and entitlement information may be collected automatically to operate and secure the service.

How We Use Information

  • Provide session setup, recording, replay, transcript alignment, insights, profile, and coaching surfaces.
  • Connect spoken words and timing with Apple Watch intensity when you authorize that access.
  • Generate role-specific interview briefs, likely questions, risk areas, answer angles, and practice prompts from material you provide.
  • Authenticate accounts, manage entitlements, process subscriptions, support team features, and prevent abuse.
  • Improve reliability, security, accessibility, and product quality.

Health Data and Sensitive Signals

Somavo is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, health scoring, or emergency monitoring. Heart-rate intensity is used to help you reflect on communication practice. HealthKit or Apple Watch data is not sold, used for advertising, or shared with third parties for marketing. Raw heart-rate sample streams are used on-device for performance-intensity context only and are never sent to Anthropic, Cartesia, or any AI provider. You can revoke Health or Watch permissions in Apple Settings at any time.

Third-Party AI Providers — What Data Is Sent and Why

Somavo uses two third-party AI service providers to power certain features. These features are user-initiated: the app displays a clear disclosure and asks for your permission before any data is sent. You can decline at any point. Provider API keys are stored only on Somavo's backend servers and are never included in the iOS or watchOS app binaries.

Anthropic (Claude)

Website: anthropic.com  ·  Privacy Policy: anthropic.com/legal/privacy

Anthropic's Claude model is used for two features:

  • AI Coaching: When you explicitly tap "Generate Coaching," Somavo sends the following to Somavo's backend, which then calls Anthropic's API:
    • Selected transcript text from your practice session
    • Session statistics (e.g. filler-word counts, pace data)
    • Pressure-phrase summaries
This data is used solely to generate personalized speaking-practice coaching. It is not used to train Anthropic's models (Somavo uses the API under Anthropic's standard commercial terms which prohibit training on API inputs).
  • Interview Prep: When you choose to generate an interview brief, Somavo sends the following to Somavo's backend, which then calls Anthropic's API:
    • Job description text you provide or paste
    • Resume or CV text you upload or paste
    • Optional profile context you choose to include
This data is used solely to generate interview practice material. You review a sample without signing in by opening the app and tapping "See Live Sample."

Cartesia

Website: cartesia.ai  ·  Privacy Policy: cartesia.ai/legal/privacy-policy

Cartesia is used for two speech features:

  • Speech Transcription: During voice practice sessions, microphone audio is streamed to Cartesia for real-time speech-to-text transcription. Only the audio stream from your active practice session is sent; it is not associated with your account or stored by Cartesia beyond the duration of the transcription request.
  • Synthesized Coaching Audio: After coaching text is generated, Somavo may send that text to Cartesia's text-to-speech API to produce spoken audio playback of your coaching feedback.

Cartesia does not receive your health data, HealthKit data, resume, job descriptions, or account information. Interview Prep does not connect to LinkedIn, log into third-party accounts, or scrape private profile pages.

User Consent for AI Features

Before any data is sent to Anthropic or Cartesia, Somavo presents an in-app disclosure explaining:

  • What specific data will be sent
  • Which provider will receive it
  • What the data will be used for

You must affirmatively continue (tap "Allow" or equivalent) before data is transmitted. You may decline without losing access to non-AI features. You can contact privacy@somavo.app to request deletion of any data that was transmitted via these features.

Third-Party Service Providers (Non-AI)

In addition to AI providers, Somavo may use service providers for authentication, cloud hosting, databases, analytics or diagnostics, crash reporting, email delivery, payment entitlement verification, and customer support. We do not sell personal information. We do not track users across other companies' apps or websites for advertising. All vendors that process user data on our behalf are required to protect it consistently with this policy and to use it only for the contracted service.

Retention

Local content remains on your device unless you choose a feature that uploads or syncs it. Cloud account records are kept while your account is active. Uploaded practice content, team-shared content, and generated coaching materials are retained until you delete them, leave the workspace where deletion is permitted, or request account deletion, unless a longer period is required for security, legal, tax, or dispute purposes. Diagnostics are typically retained for a limited period needed to maintain reliability and security.

Your Choices and Deletion

  • You can decline or revoke microphone, speech recognition, Health, notification, and other permissions in iOS Settings.
  • You can decline AI feature consent prompts inside the app without losing access to non-AI features.
  • You can delete local sessions in the app where the feature is available.
  • You can request export, correction, or deletion of cloud account data by contacting privacy@somavo.app.
  • If you are part of a team workspace, some records may be controlled by the workspace owner. We will help route deletion requests appropriately.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect user information, including access controls, encrypted transport, server-side credential management, and separation between mobile clients and provider API keys. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we work to reduce risk and respond to security issues promptly.

Children

Somavo is intended for adults and professional preparation. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. If changes materially affect privacy practices, we will update the date above and provide additional notice where appropriate.
